Warorot Market (Kad Luang)
A historical landmark, a long-standing market, known for its variety of specialty Chiang Mai food and products.
Kad Luang or Warorot Market is a must visit if you love a try on local food. It is a 3-storey building with first floor selling food and goods while second and third floors selling cheap clothing and merchandise. All the ground floor is all for foodstuffs and produce. It is the main local market and is a busy place where you can see the real Chiang Mai. Clothing, handicrafts, beauty supplies, shoes, and anything else you might be looking for is available on the second and third floors.
This market excites visitors with its vibrant atmosphere and is often considered a place where you can still see the old and real Chiang Mai. Kad Luang is a multi-story shopping center with dozens of traditional shops, selling mostly food (ground floor) and clothes (upper floors). What many people don’t know is that a similar building, called Ton Lamyai, is just on the opposite of Kad Luang and also features plenty of vendors selling food and clothes. When two market combined together, it create a huge open-space which means it will allows more economic activities to grow even larger.
Why is it interesting?

It is one of the places where lots of Thais locals do their own shopping, so expect to find the same or similar goods that you see at other markets also sold here but cheaper.

You could also spend hours walking around the outside surrounding areas of the market there all sorts of make-shift vendors, and lots of street action.

This market fills with spectacular norms and cultures when its come to a festival such as Loy Kratong, Songkran, and New Year. All buildings and roads will be decorated beautifly.
As I am a local person, I can say that everytime I went there I can sense special feeling of friendliness of the seller and people I walked past. Maybe that is one of the things that others can feel and become addicted to this market from time to time.

We can see that market is one of the place that there are a lot of economic activities such as selling and buying goods, negotiate for lower price, etc. Similar to the picture given below, Kad Luang offers local food such as Sai Ua and Nam Prik Noom. These two are northern food that visitors must try with Crispy Pork Rinds. Rather than that, market is the place where government officers usually come and check out how well the busineses are doing. Even when during Thailand election, most of the candidate from every party went here to gain popularity and encourage people to vote them.
